A scratch-resistant coating is a layer of lacquer applied to both the front and back surfaces of a lens. The lacquer is very hard and reduces the possibility of scratches. A scratch-resistant coating does not make a lens scratch-proof.

An anti-reflective or “A/R” coating is applied to the front and back surfaces of a lens. This coating helps improve the clarity of a lens by reducing white mirror-like reflections. An anti-reflective coating makes your lenses less visible to others, improves clarity while driving at night, and reduces overall eye strain.

Anti-reflective coatings provide the wearer with 100% UVA/UVB protection.

A hydrophobic coating is a property incorporated into an anti-reflective coating.  Hydrophobic coatings repel water and moisture from your lenses allowing them to stay cleaner for longer.  This feature is ideal for people who spend lots of time outdoors.

An oleophobic coating is a property incorporated into an anti-reflective coating.  Oleophobic coatings make lenses easier to clean by giving them resistance to oils that may get onto your lenses from fingers, faces, while cooking, etc.  This feature is ideal for people who have a hard time keeping their lenses clean and want to keep their lenses clean longer.

A blue light protective coating is a specialized anti-reflective coating. The properties of this coating are tailored for protection against harmful UV rays emitted from digital devices (smartphones, tablets, computer monitors), fluorescent, and LED lighting.  This coating is proven to reduce general eye fatigue, reduce the possibility of eye disease, and improve visual acuity.  All characteristics of an anti-reflective coating are present, with the addition of this feature.
